On the morning of April 26, 2024, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) World Economic Outlook themed conference was held at Chongqing Technology and Business University. This conference is jointly organized by the International Monetary Fund and Chongqing Technology and Business University (CTBU), and hosted by the School of Economics of CTBU and the Center for Southeast Asian Studies of CTBU, and co-organized by the International Cooperation and Exchange Department of CTBU.

Many experts and scholars attended the report, delivered speeches, and participated in the discussion, including Wen Tao, President of CTBU, Bai Qun, Standing Committee Member and Vice President of the Party Committee of CTBU, Zhang Zhixiang, former Director of the International Department of the People's Bank of China and former Executive Director for China at the IMF, Steven Barnett, Chief Representative of the IMF in China, Mehdi Benatiya Andalousi and Nicolas Fernandez Arias, economists of the IMF Research Department, and Song Ying, Dean of the School of Economics at CTBU. The meeting was chaired by Zhang Yi, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department of CTBU.

Bai Qun delivered a speech on behalf of the university, expressing a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to the guests attending the conference. She also mentioned that the world economy is currently in a difficult period, with endless risks and challenges. How to restore stability and growth of the world economy is a topic of common concern worldwide. The World Economic Outlook regularly released by the IMF aims to analyze the global macroeconomic situation, predict economic prospects, and provide intellectual support for the prosperity of the world economy and the high-quality development of China's economy. We look forward to more exchanges among guests during this report meeting, and Chongqing Technology and Business University will also work together with Chinese and foreign institutions such as the IMF to contribute the wisdom to the stable development of the world economy.

Steven Alan Barnett pointed out in his keynote speech that the COVID-19 epidemic had a lasting scarring effect on the global economy, and the global economic growth rate was still lower than before the epidemic. He particularly emphasized China's key role in global economic recovery, as its rapid economic recovery has brought significant spillover effects to other countries and regions around the world. In the process of global economic transformation, the international community should focus on curbing inflation, improving production efficiency, and strengthening global cooperation.

Mehdi Benatiya Andalousi analyzed the three main channels through which monetary policy is transmitted to the real estate market. He stressed that central banks need to consider more the characteristics of the real estate market when formulating policies, understand the transmission mechanism of monetary policy in different countries' real estate markets, and pay close attention to market changes to adjust policies in a timely manner.

Nicolas Fernandez Arias mainly analyzed the spillover effects of G20 emerging markets. He stated that the economic growth expectations of some emerging market countries have slowed down, and this change may have spillover effects on other economies around the world, leading to a redistribution of economic activity and employment. In response, he proposed measures such as promoting structural reform, implementing fiscal support, strengthening multilateral cooperation, and international policy coordination. Finally, the attending experts and scholars engaged in extensive discussions on topics such as the challenges of global economic recovery, green finance, and inflation.

It is understood that the World Economic Outlook is the flagship report of the IMF, which focuses on analyzing recent and medium-term global economic development. The report covers regional economic issues of developed countries, developing countries, and emerging economics. World Economic Outlook is released in Beijing every spring and autumn, and this year marks the first time in recent years the IMF's office in China has held a thematic conference in Chongqing in recent years.
